Ardha Chandrasana: Method, Benefits, and Precautions

Ardha Chandrasana is a special yoga pose. This is because there are different ways of doing it. You can practice any or all of these. It is also known as Half Moon Pose in English. Ardha Chandrasana is derived from the Sanskrit words Ardha meaning half moon meaning moon and asana meaning yoga posture.

What is Ardha Chandrasana?

Ardha chandrasana is a very important asana of yoga. In this yoga asana, the body comes in the shape of a half phase of the moon. This position of the moon occurs around the seventh ie the moon is only half illuminated.

How to do Ardha Chandrasana:

  • To do this, first of all, stand with the heels of both feet together.
  • Both the hands should be adjacent to the waist and keep your neck straight.
  • Then slowly keep both the feet at a distance of about one to one and a half feet from each other.
  • Keep in mind that while practicing this asana, your spine should remain straight.
  • After this, raise the right hand up and bring it parallel to the shoulder.
  • Your palm should be facing towards the sky.
  • While doing this, keep in mind that your left hand should remain on your waist.
  • Now bend to the left, as shown in the figure.
  • During this, your left hand will keep sliding down.
  • Remember that the palm of the left hand should not be allowed to move away from the left foot.
  • Stay in this position for 30-40 seconds, then slowly come back to the normal position.
  • If you are doing this for the first time, then bend as much as you can.
  • Now do the same process on the other side as well.

What are the benefits of doing Ardha Chandrasana?

  • By regularizing this asana, the accumulated fat in the body is reduced.
  • This asana helps in the development of the chest and also cures diseases of the spine.
  • By doing this daily, diseases related to the stomach, shoulders and legs are removed.
  • By doing this asana regularly, the part of the cheek bladder, knee, kidney, liver, small intestine, chest, lungs, and neck are affected simultaneously.

Precautions of Ardha Chandrasana

Avoid practicing Ardha Chandrasana if you have the following conditions.

  • If there is a pain in the spine then do not do this asana.
  • This asana should not be done even if there is a serious illness.
  • Do not do this asana if you have problems with diarrhea and asthma.
  • Ardhachandrasana should not be done if there is a pain in the neck.
  • Don’t raise your hand if you have shoulder pain.
  • If you have knee pain or arthritis, just practice against the wall, and heart and high blood pressure patients should not do this asana.
  • Initially, do the crescent moon only under the supervision of a yoga instructor and you can do this asana yourself when the balance is achieved.
